Punjabi Dal Tadka is easily one of the most popular lentil preparation of Indian Cuisine.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup Ahar Dal
  • 1/2 cup Moong Dal
  • 1 onion, peeled and chopped fine
  • 1/2 tsp ginger paste
  • 1/2 tsp garlic paste
  • 1 medium tomato, finely chopped
  • 2 green chilli, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp RM Spice Turmeric
  • 1 tsp RM Spice Kitchen King Masala
  • 1 tsp RM Spice Kashmiri Mirch
  • 1tsp RM Spice Amchur powder
  • 1tsp Cumin seed
  • 2 nos Whole Dry Red Chilli
  • 1 Tbsp Cooking Oil
  • 2 tsp Ghee
    Coriander Chopped for garnish.

Method:

  1. Wash the dal and place in a saucepan along with 3 cups of water,RM Spice Turmeric and salt to taste.
  2. Cook covered for medium flame until dal is nicely cooked, for about 20 mins, stirring occasionally or alternatively cook in a pressure cooker for 2 whistles. Stir to mash the dal slightly.
  3. Heat the oil in a pan, add 1 tsp of the ghee.
  4. Once the oil/ ghee is hot, add onion and fry until slightly browned.
  5. Add ginger and garlic and fry for a minute.
  6. Add the chopped tomatoes and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
  7. Add the RM Spice Kashmiri Mirch and Kitchen King Masala, stir well to mix.
  8. Add the cooked dal and stir well to mix , bring to a boil.
  9. Simmer the heat and let the dal cook for 4-5 minutes.
  10. Add the RM Spice Amchur powder and mix well.
  11. For tempering, heat ghee in a pan. Once the ghee is hot, add cumin seeds, the dry chiliies.
    Let them crackle for a few seconds
  12. Pour the tempering over the dal. Garnish with fresh coriander. Serve hot, with steamed rice or Rotis.
